Hello and welcome to this week’s TV Party roundup column, in which I pick the best new shows you need to be watching right now (I try to list both US and U.K. streamers where possible). It’s another busy one. For this week’s round-up, I’ve got:
A cult drama that picks at the growing divide between the super rich and working class
The return of Nicole Kidman as a spiritual guide with less than wholesome intentions
The end for one of Netflix’s filthiest animated series
There is also a recap of the week’s TV news + must-read links. If any of that sounds interesting and you want to stay in the know and up to date the please subscribe to TV Party below. Subscribers get access to these weekly emails and to a separate, weekly essay. Now, on with the round-up.
Sirens (Netflix)
Stars: Julianne Moore, Megann Fahy, Milly Alcock
Written by Maid creator Molly Smith Metzler, Sirens follows Devon (Fahy) who is concerned about her sister Simone (Alcock)'s creepy relationship with her new boss, billionaire Michaela (Moore), and decides it's time for an intervention.
Nine Perfect Strangers S2 (Hulu/Prime Video)
Stars: Nicole Kidman, Henry Golding, Annie Murphy, Christine Baranski, King Princess, Murray Bartlett, Dolly de Leon
Nicole Kidman raids her endless wig box as she returns to play Masha, the highly suspicious wellness influencer/guru. The second season of the White Lotus dupe takes place over a a 10-day stay at a resort nestled in the Swiss Alps.
Big Mouth S8 (Netflix)
If, like me, you stepped away from Nick Kroll’s kids animation for adults a few years ago this final season might be a good time to catch up. The kids must be about 35 by now, right?
Jerrod Carmichael: Don’t Be Gay (HBO)
Jerrod Carmichael didn’t bathe himself in glory with last year’s brutally honest Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show, but akward truths are his M.O. Stand up, where he gets to add a little varnish to his self-centred ways, is where he excels. Expect big laughs and some uncomfortable silences in his latest special when it debuts this weekend.
